Dorm Room Essentials Checklist

Figuring out just what to bring to college might be the single most stressful thing that any college student goes through. How do you pack an entire 18 years of your life into one room, or better yet.....half of one room. We've put together this checklist to try and relieve some of the stress, enjoy.         Bedroom Alarm Clock/Cell Phone: Always make sure you have a tool to wake you up in the morning for those dreaded 8AM classes. We recommend keeping it out of reaching distance to avoid shutting it off in your sleep. Calendar/Bulletin Board: One of the most difficult things in college is staying organized. Use these to keep track of homework, tests or big events. Clothing/Hangers: Well this one might seem pretty obvious. Try not to bring your whole closet, most likely the closet you'll be sharing is much smaller than the one you have at home. Computer: If you have the money, a laptop can be the best investment you can make in college. It ...

10 Things You Can Expect From Your College Roommate(s)

There are lots of things about starting college that are enough to cause even the most stalwart amongst the incoming freshmen to cringe. Perhaps one of the most daunting aspects about starting your college career is the fact you'll be moving in with someone (or more than one, depending on housing situations) that you've never met. Most colleges require that freshmen live in the dorms during their freshmen year and will assign roommates which means you'll probably wind up living with people you have no idea of. These will often be people somewhat similar in backgrounds, but not always. You could wind up living with people of different ethnicities, different religious backgrounds, different lifestyles and more than likely, different interests and goals. Admittedly, they'll be just as nervous as you are and have just as many questions about living with you as you have about living with them. So, what can you expect with a roommate in a situation like this? ...

History of The College Dorm Room

For centuries now, the college experience has long been associated with living in dormitories. From the first university in the United States the modern colleges and universities of today, students have had the opportunity and experience of living with one another at a pivotal time in their lives. All students in dorms are relatively young, typically between 18 and 23 years old, and all of them have a goal of getting a degree in mind. It's an experience that defines those first moments in an adult life, and that helps students learn the importance of responsibility, the benefit of independence and the joys of student camaraderie. However, while the general experience has remained the same, the dorms themselves have changed a lot over the years. From the archaic and cold buildings that were built hundreds of years ago to the modern dorms of today that more closely resemble resorts, the style and feel of college dorms has continued to change over time. The Very Fi...

How to Organizie Your Dorm Room In Under 10 Minutes

Your college dorm will probably be much smaller than the room you have at home. By keeping it organized, you can keep all of your belongings neat and easy to access. Keep things in your dorm room that have more than one function. Use a laptop or a net book rather than a desk top computer. This will enable you to use your laptop in a variety of location. Better yet, use a tablet which takes up even less space. Put a blanket on your bed that can be easily laundered. This way you can use it your room, or take it with you to sporting events and other outdoor functions. Talk to your roommate about sharing things you need. Rather than taking up space with two small fridges, share one and save some room for another item. Divide the fridge so that you have at least one shelf for yourself and one for your roommate. That way, you can be sure your favorite snacks will be there when you want them. Leave no space empty in your room. Use up every square inch possible. Keep your lugga...

If someone you know is off to college, or has just moved into their first apartment in the big city, suggest that they get a twin XL bed. That won't happen any more if you get a twin XL bed. A twin XL bed can give them the comfort that they need when conserving space is a serious consideration. Studio and small one bedroom apartments in the big city can be cramped and uncomfortable. And young adults often times don't have the money that they would need in order to buy a full sized bed.
